  • Massage therapy works well to help maintain good health and a state of relaxation. It helps the body by reducing stress through relaxation of the muscles. A massage therapist uses many different modalities to help the body relax.
  • The two main types of massage are Swedish massage and Deep tissue.
    • Swedish massage is a relaxing massage with little or no deep pressure. Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are Effleurage (light touch), Petrissage (kneading), Tapotement (rhythmic tapping), Friction (compression), and Vibration.
    • Deep tissue massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. This concentrated massage provides not only relaxation but also enhances flexibility and may shorten injury recovery.
  • How to obtain the most from your massage.
    • Arrive early to your massage that way your body has some time to relax before starting your massage. Rushing will tense up the body and it will take longer to relax.
    • Undress to your comfort level. If you choose to leave on your clothes, please wear clothes that are loose and light weight. The massage room is private and you are given ample amount of time to change for your massage session.
    • Make sure you communicate with your therapist. Let them know if you are allergic to any oils or scents that may be in the oil or lotion. Let the therapist know if you feel any discomfort during the massage as the therapist can adjust to your needs. Don’t be afraid to let your therapist know of any concerns that you have.
    • Make sure to drink lots of water after your session.

CranioSacral Therapy

What is CST?

CranioSacral Therapy uses a combination of gentle manual techniques to restore the alignment and function to the structures of the central nervous system. These structures, namely, the bones, soft tissues, and cerebrospinal fluid, can become imbalanced, resulting in such problems as migraine headaches, fatigue, emotional strain, or orthopaedic dysfunction. CST strives to align and enhance the system's function. This hands-on method of treatment is beneficial for any age group, including infants, children, adults, and the elderly. It effectively treats both acute and chronic conditions. At Pelican Sports & Rehab, we offer trained, experienced CST practitioners who believe in the healing power of gentle, restorative touch

What should I expect?

Benefits of CST include:

  • Freedom from pain, emotional stress, mechanical dysfunction.
  • Correction of a variety of troublesome imbalances.
  • Boost disease-fighting functions in those who wish to maintain overall wellness.
  • Using a light touch, the CST practitioners at Pelican Sports & Rehab sense your body's craniosacral rhythm and identify stress or obstructions. Once trouble spots are pinpointed, the CST practitioner works to restore the natural flow of fluids and soft tissues to help the body heal itself.
  • This involves a series of gentle assessment and treatment techniques using pressure often not heavier than a nickel. Many times,
  • CST alone will correct an imbalance. Other times, a combination of therapies is most effective.

CST can be helpful in the treatment or management of:

  • Migraine Headaches
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Orthopedic Problems
  • Scoliosis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJD)
  • Motor-Coordination Impairments
